What's New
City Lights Dream Center of Santa Ana

We would like to thank Shane and the City Lights Dream Center of Santa Ana for putting on their first all Girl Skate Day!  The City Lights Dream Center offers a skate park to reach neighborhood children by offering them a positive and safe atmosphere.  Cool Girl Decks was impressed by their skate park which includes a 13’ vert ramp, 8’ half pipe, 3.5’ mini ramp and a street course!  Wow—the neighborhood girls must be stoked (we suppose the boys are as well!)!

Cool Girl Decks was proud to participate in the girls skate day by offering skating lessons by our very own pro, Holly Lyons.  Cool Girls team member, Alize Montes, and a friend of CGD, Beccy, helped the girls with skating tips as well.

After skating and working up our appetites, the Dream Center provided a fantastic BBQ.  Ten lucky female skaters were the proud new owners of a Cool Girls deck, in addition to some new tee’s provided by both CGD and Holly Lyons’ feature brand, Sk8Grl. Viking Helmets were awarded to the most improved girls at the end of the day and two lucky raffle winners took home complete decks, provided by Skelanimals and CGD.

CGD would like to thank Sk8Girl, Skelanimals and Viking Helmets for their participation.

Here’s to more all girl skate days—girl skaters rule!

Simi Valley SkateLab Summer Skate Camp

August 17, 2007 – Team pro, Holly Lyons was asked to come up to the Simi Valley Skate Lab for a Meet & Greet, where they were having a skate camp with about 65 kids and 6 were girls.  She made it up there and was able to meet the kids, demo the wooden bowl they have, watch them compete for prizes, and she had two Cool Girl’s Pro model skateboards that she raffled off for free.

“It is so much fun to hang out with the kids when they are learning or new to skateboarding.  They get so excited and it’s just so much fun for them!” Holly said.

She also brought up some of her SK8GRL t-shirts and gave them out to the girls and some of the Mom’s.

On August 25th, the skate lab with be having an etnies girls get on board clinic for girls only.  So, if you’re in the area, check it out!

July 14-15 - The LA Calendar Motorcycle Show

Cool Girl Decks and Sk8grl Clothing had a booth set up at this year's LA Calendar Motorcycle Show in Long Beach, CA. It was a great day full of sunshine with cool air coming off from the water. Our booth was in a perfect location next to the water and where all foot traffic walked by so they got to check out the fun girl skateboard products that we had to offer. There were a lot of families that came to our booth and Dad's who bought their daughters or nieces a board or some tops. A couple little girls kept coming by and asking Holly questions about being a girl skater, they were really cute and were more and more talkative each time.  We met a German family too that was so happy to see a booth all about female skateboarding.

There were thousands of people through out the day, and the show also offered music on the center stage during the day along with a lot of motorcycle booths, clothing booths, calendar pin up girls with their calendars, food, and lot more.

May 12th, 2007 marked the 3rd annual Pro Tec Pool Party contest at Vans skateboard park in Orange, California. The contest went off as usual and everybody was skating great! Cara-Beth Burnside won the pro girls division. Rune Glifberg won the Pro division and Chris Miller won the Masters division.

The highlight of the evening was when our own Holly Lyons was awarded the overall 2006 Pro Women's Bowl Rider by World Cup Skateboarding.

Holly was honored along with Rune Glifberg, Steve Caballero, and Benji Galloway as the overall title winners.

The plaques were very special because they had each winners names, along with their contest results engraved in the plaque for all of 2006.

In '06 Holly traveled thousands of miles, spent months away from home, and we just wanted Holly to know that all of her hard work is very much appreciated. So from all of us here at Cool Girl Decks, congratulations!

Cool Girls' Team Pro Holly Lyons is our first of what we hope is many team members to be ranked #1! Holly Lyons you rock!

March 28, 2007

On March 28th at the San Dieguito Academy for high school kids, Holly Lyons went to talk to two classes for the Carrier Community Connection Day. This gives the students an opportunity to listen to and be able to ask professional people from various types of work what it's like. They then have a better idea of the work and lifestyle opportunities in the future.

This is the second time in the last couple of months that Holly has been invited to speak at schools, and let them know what life is like for a professional female skater. There are always pro's and con's to every profession. Holly talks about both and also adds some stories and answers questions.

This is a great opportunity for kids of all ages to see what life is like past school. There were also Lawyers, Doctors, Politicians, Engineers, Nurses, a Yoga Teacher and more.

Holly loves giving back and sharing her stories. She likes to inspire kids to follow their own dreams, listen to themselves, and know that there is a way to make a living no matter what it is that you love to do. We want to thank Holly once again for taking time out of her BUSY schedule to talk to the kids and make a difference for them while they are growing up.

December 12, 2006

Mr. Goodman & Holly Lyons
Youth are inherently curious about what they will be when they grow up. Many students never actually talk first hand with a pilot, doctor, professional skateboarder, or plumber to find out just what they do on a daily basis. Exploring their career options at an early age helps widen their reality base of the world of work.

With this goal in mind, I was asked to be part of Career Day on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Jefferson Leadership Academies in the Long Beach Unified School District. The goal was to have the students interact with a wide variety of professionals and occupational groups.  This will create an understanding that will help them prepare for their future career paths. Students in 6th through 8th grade signed up to see which occupations seemed interesting to them. I was told that kids curios about being a professional skateboarder was filled up first.

I spoke to three different groups in Mr. Goodman's classroom. I told my story of how I got into skateboarding, what has been my driving force, and all the ups and downs that come with being a professional athlete. Including injuries, contests, traveling, sponsorship and more. At the end of each class, the kids asked me questions, and we brought posters to hand out, and the kids lined up for autographs and stickers.

It was really fun being able to share my experience with all the kids at Jefferson. I think they thought it was cool to see a girl skater, and that not just guys can grow up to be a pro. I got the chance to meet some of the other presenters of the day, which was really fun. I think this is a great event for the kids, so they can see that there is an infinite number of ways to make money. The important thing is that you can find a job out there, or create one that is perfect for you. A job that you make money at, and can also have fun at.

October 7th, 2006

This was the first ever 100% skateboarding KEEP-A-BREAST art show. Curated and photo documented by photographer Desiree Astorga. Our own, Holly Lyons was honored to be one of a few female skateboarders to have a cast mold for the KEEP-A-BREAST art show in San Francisco, Cailfornia.

Matt Dove painted Holly's cast and did an amazing job. Other castees are the singer Pink, Bam Margera, Elissa Steamer, Jen O'Brien and more. Each cast will be up for auction from Oct. 17-26th to raise money for the Keep-A-Breast foundation.

Official website and bidding will take place at: www.keep-a-breast.org
